Formation of Feminine Nouns

Let's learn how words can show gender! In Sairupanese, occupational nouns such as teacher, baker, banker are modified to indicate whether the person with that occupation is male or female.


In Sairupanese, to indicate a female profession, /-iŋ/ can be added to the end.

For example, when /-iŋ/ is added to the end of [mɛsaR] ‘male, teacher’ it becomes [mɛsaRiŋ] ‘female, teacher’.


Remember this only works applies to nouns that indicate profession!


 

Now try it yourself!

Make the following list of nouns into feminine form:

[blaʎep] ‘male, doctor’


Answer:

[blaʎepiŋ] ‘female, doctor'
